BE-SAFE and AGE Platform Europe raise awareness for World Patient Safety Day
In September 2026, BE-SAFE marked World Patient Safety Day by highlighting the importance of good sleep and safer sleeping medicine use for older adults.
Through its awareness campaign, the project drew attention to the connections between sleep, wellbeing and safety in everyday life. The messages encouraged greater awareness of healthy sleep habits and supported BE-SAFE’s commitment to reducing potentially harmful benzodiazepine and sedative-hypnotic use among older adults with sleep problems.
AGE Platform Europe also shared the campaign, helping bring these messages to a wider audience concerned with older people’s health, rights and wellbeing. This outreach illustrates the value of connecting research projects with organisations that represent older people and amplify their perspectives.
By raising awareness together, BE-SAFE and AGE Platform Europe highlighted the importance of keeping older people’s needs at the centre of conversations about patient safety.
