BE-SAFE clinical trial reaches 50% recruitment milestone
In November 2025, the BE-SAFE clinical trial reached an important milestone: 50% of its recruitment target, with more than 235 participants enrolled across Belgium, Greece, Norway, Poland, Spain and Switzerland.
This achievement reflects the commitment of participating patients and healthcare professionals, together with the close collaboration of trial teams across all six countries.
The project’s Patient Partnership Advisory Council (PAC) also made a valuable contribution, helping teams identify and address recruitment barriers. Its input supported practical adaptations to the recruitment process, demonstrating how patient involvement can shape and strengthen research.
The trial evaluates a patient-centred approach to reducing benzodiazepine and sedative-hypnotic use among older adults with sleep problems. By testing support for safer deprescribing in different healthcare settings, BE-SAFE aims to generate evidence that can inform clinical practice and improve patient safety.
A warm thank-you to all participants, patient partners and healthcare professionals who made this milestone possible!
